Science Lab Technician
This is a full-time, on-site role of a Science Lab Technician at AAS his is a full-time, on-site role of a Science Lab Technician at Qatar located in Doha, Qatar. The Science Lab Technician is responsible for organizing and ensuring the safe storage of chemicals and lab equipment, preparing chemical and biological solutions, and maintaining the lab equipment. Other responsibilities include instructing students on safe laboratory practices and procedures, and performing inventory checks and making orders when supplies run low.
Qualifications
A degree in a scientific field or a degree from a technical program
Experience working in a laboratory setting or a science-related job is preferred
Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational and time management skills
Good knowledge of laboratory safety practices and procedures
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and logically
Effective communication and interpersonal skills as there is a need to engage with different stakeholders
Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide guidance to teaching faculties and students on how to use laboratory facilities in an appropriate and safe manner.
They also get involved in setting up the experiments and practical demonstrations which will enhance people’s theoretical learning.
Maintaining and repairing equipment and laboratory apparatus.
Record keeping, e.g. for students' practical sessions, tracking methods, results, etc.
Ensuring that equipment is properly cleaned and that chemicals, drugs and other materials are appropriately stored.
Working with individual students and supporting them on research projects.
Managing the stock control of chemicals and equipment.
Ensuring that all health and safety procedures are understood and followed correctly.
Coordinating work in the laboratory to ensure efficient use is made of expensive pieces of equipment.
Collecting, checking and returning equipment to stores.
General Laboratory cleaning: bench surfaces and fixed equipment (laboratory sinks, emptying/supervising the emptying of sink traps).
Disposing of waste materials.
Keeping up to date with developments in practical science and health and safety requirements.
Carrying out health and safety checks on laboratories, prep rooms and stores.
